Collaborative Event with Nagaoka University of Technology

Intensive Global Leadership Seminar for Toyohashi and Nagaoka Universities of Technology was held in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture

The "Intensive Global Leadership Seminar of Toyohashi and Nagaoka Universities of Technology" was held in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, with the participation of 35 students from Toyohashi University of Technology and Nagaoka University of Technology. The seminar included a city tour, a keynote speech, group discussions, and poster presentations.

Event Highlights

Factory Tour:

On the first day of the event, participants visited Suwada Seisakusho, a well-known manufacturing company in Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture. Participants were able to see the actual factory process and feel the atmosphere of the craftsmanship.

Keynote Speech:

President Watanabe of TOWA JAPAN Corporation, headquartered in Shibata, Niigata Prefecture, was invited to deliver a keynote speech titled "If you were to start a business in Asia - using investment in Vietnam as an example". Valuable knowledge about global leadership skills and insights were shared. During the Q&A session, participants asked many questions, such as "What qualities are necessary for a global leader?" The session was so lively.

Group Discussion:

Participants were divided into groups of four or five for the group discussions on "what kind of learning and experience is needed to become an engineer, interpreter, surgeon, president, ambassador, or representative of a non-profit organization". Participants exchanged ideas and came up with their ideal "how to be ____" growth stories.

Poster Presentations:

On the final day of the event, each group developed a poster presentation of their "how to become ____" growth story, which was presented in a mixture of English and Japanese. Participants listened to each group's presentation, which was full of ideas.

Comments from participating students

"It was refreshing to work and discuss in a different place and with different members (M2 student, Toyohashi Univ. of Technology)," and "I enjoyed interacting with students from Nagaoka Univ. of Technology and the factory tour (B4 student, Toyohashi Univ. of Technology).

Impressions and Future Prospects:

Participants were able to improve their leadership, communication, problem-solving, and other skills required in a global context, as well as develop new ideas and friendships. We will continue to deepen exchanges with different regions and fields to develop human resources with broader perspectives.
