Student Organized Event: Sharing session ~3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami~

Post date:15/Jan/2024

On December 15, 2023, a lecture on disaster experience was held by students who experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

This lecture was planned by students who are from Tohoku area for international students who have never experienced an earthquake to tell what to do in the event of an earthquake.

The lecture began with a talk on the characteristics of earthquakes, and disasters follow earthquakes. The students shared their story about the actual damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent tsunami, and the life until recovery.

The international students listened attentively to the stories of how their cars were swept away by the tsunami, how they could not see their families for a long time, and how it took days to restore the infrastructure.

One of the international students who participated in the lecture said, "I learned the importance of being prepared. I knew that there are earthquakes in Japan, but I did not know how to prepare for them. I am going to start stocking up on water and other supplies today."

One of the students who organized the event said, "After the lecture, I realized that everyone's preparation was not enough at all. I wanted to convey the message that if people with experience are prepared, then that much preparation is actually necessary. I would be happy if this lecture will help raise everyone's awareness of disaster preparation."
